Greetings everyone. I have been looking at using powerhome in conjunction with my ELK M1. However, one of the main features I want to be able to add to my ELK is Cheaper RFID support.

For those of you who are not aware, this is currently supported by CQC and HS. They are active RFID devices which are EXTREMELY inexpensive and have had great feedback from the community. If powerhome could implement this, it would open up some great HA functionality which has been limited to X10.

Here is a link to the devices:

Here is a link to the homeseer and cqc plugin threads:

I hope to hear back from you guys!

It looks like the receiver just transmits the device ID (a 4-character code) via RS232, so it would be inherently supported via PH's comm functions. Also, someone could write a plugin for it.

ph0n33z,

I looked at the links and it's definately doable. The protocol looked simple enough, but unfortunately, I don't currently have any of these devices to test with.

If you have these devices and could post a hyperterminal output that shows the format of the received codes, then it would be rather trivial for me to create a plugin for it for PowerHome.

Dave.

Love how he says "trivial to create a plugin"

As I understand it, the data is just a 4-character code followed by a space ("r2D2 ")

It is news for me that ELK is cheaper than RFID support. I had always thought that it was the other way around. Anyway I checked out the RFID devices available in eBay. I am of the view that they are extremely cheap. I have decided to purchase the dual receiver module. I think I will be able to get it for less than $55.
