Don't mean to be rude.. but I've been waiting 2 years now.
I doubt it's going to happen. Although I originally
invested in PowerHome, I've ended up paying out again and
buying Homeseer.

Ouch! Well, the truth does hurt .

Zwave is still on the list but not sure how or when it will materialize. I originally bought into the whole ControlThink SDK and was going to go that route but after Leviton bought them out, they dropped support and never corrected the memory leak issues so that was a waste.

I next was going to go with the Open Zwave project and purchased another USB Zwave adapter to be compatible with it but it doesnt look like much development is going on there. Plus, being strictly .Net based, the interface with PowerBuilder would be a little tricky.

My current thought process is to go with the VRC0P. But even that way appears to be in flux with the device being updated. However, at this time, this is probably the route I'll end up taking. No time frame but Im hopeful I can maybe start it next year.

Dave.

I gave up waiting for PLCBus as well. Using Domotiga now which seems to have support for all sorts of protocols and so far is very stable and versatile.

For what's it's worth I'm a happy camper.... Powerhome has more than enough for what I need and I doubt you can get better customer support. You can't be everything for everybody so I'm sure there will be some that are disappointed that certain protocols are not supported and no doubt there will be a product that will fill that notch. But for what Dave supports there is a large amount of technical stuff to keep up with and no doubt quite time consuming.

I fully appreciate the variety of protocols available,
and difficulty in keeping up so many. However, here in
the UK we only have two options, X10 and Zwave.
I’ve wasted a lot of money on X10 modules, filters,
repeaters etc and still it was massively unreliable. It
gets to the point where your easy to use, automated house
is actually causing you more hassle and stress.
Then Z-wave was released to the UK.. I’ve changed around
50 units and I finally have the ultimate reliability.
Having spent so many hours / days of my life piecing
together, learning and creating my automated actions with
weather, web scrapes, triggers etc… All I wanted was to
be able to use the one reliable technology that was
available to us with Powerhome..
To be fair, I held on for quite a while before looking
elsewhere.
I appreciate Z-wave is not so common in the America,
mainly due to the fact that you have so many other
reliable options available to you. It must be hard for
Dave to commit his time to something that he shares
little interest in.
So the best way to go forward, is to say that Z-wave
won’t be a feature supported by powerhome. It saves all
parties involved the time and money.
Congratulations on a fantastic program, with fantastic
custom abilities, backed up by personal support from a
passionate developer. Whether we use Powerhome, Homeseer,
Domotiga or any other program, we all share the common
passion for home automation, and actually, that’s all
that matters.
Over & Out

PLCBus is also available in the UK and I find it very reliable. Switched my house over from X10 1st gen to PLCBus and I'm very happy with it. I asked for PLCBus a long time ago, and was informed that it looked easy to implement as it is close to X10. But that was several years ago, hence my switch to Domotiga that being open source seems to support just about everything.
Linux is a better operating environment than Windows for leaving switched on for long periods. I found my Windows machine would crash every week or so and require a reboot, the same machine with Linux on it and all is fine. In addition, if the machine is just to do home automation then you can use a minimalist version of Linux (I use Lubuntu) and use a low powered, low power consumption computer to meet your needs

Hi Dave,

Any update on the possibility of Z wave support? It does seem tough to find a program with the flexibility and power of Powerhome. I too have been considering the possibility of Z-wave, though, over Insteon because Z wave seems to have a significantly more extensive contingent of hardware companies developing for it. Not sure if that is in fact accurate. But that is my perception at least.

Mike,

Z-wave is pretty much at the top of the list. After I get beta 2.1.5 out Im hoping to start work on it. Definitely alot of nice hardware available for Z-wave that has my interest piqued.

Peter,

No progress yet. Still trying to get a stable 2.1.5 version out before starting work.

Im back to evaluating z-wave interfaces. It doesnt look like the VRC0P is going anywhere either. I checked out the HomeSeer ASCII to Zwave controller and it definitely looks interesting. Did a bit of digging and research and Im convinced that its the same as this product http://razberry.z-wave.me/ perhaps with a little extra programming thrown in but you can see from the pictures its definitely a raspberry pi.

Also looking into the SmartThings hub. I like the concept of this controller but it doesnt look like the protocol will be open and flexible enough for general controller integration to PowerHome.

Not a lot of other things have changed concerning z-wave other than alot of new full featured home automation controllers such as SmartThings, Revolv, VeraLite, etc. Im thinking Im going to go ahead and plunk down the cash for the Razberry z-wave daughtercard http://www.amazon.com/Z-Wave-Razberry-Pi-GPIO-Daughter-Card/ dp/B00BL9QFH6 since I already have several pi's and see if I can start working on an interface.

Let me know if anyone else has any other ideas or suggestions.

Dave.

Dave,

I read that the daughtercard can also work with the model B+, that will be my choice then....
The online shop conrad.nl has a starterkit with power-adaptor, wifi stick and housing for about $65,-
(SEE
this link in dutch)

How will the paspberry be connecterd to PH? Does the raspberry need e.g NOOBS as an OS?

Or is it too early to answer these questions?

Peter,

Way too early. This is pretty much me thinking out loud at this point. If I start down this path and it doesnt look like its going to work then I would try a different path (still considering open-zwave if I can make the .net talk to PowerBuilder properly).

Assuming it works and I get everything done, the razberry (what they call the whole z-wave enabled raspberry pi with a daughtercard and software) would communicate via tcp/ip. Most likely using the hard-wired network adapter of the pi unless for some reason you went wireless.

Concerning the OS, it looks like you can download a complete image with the z-wave stack installed or just download the stack and install on top of Raspbian.
