Dave,

can an implementation of Zwave-support be expected soon after the coming update?

Peter

p.s. I know I've asked this before but X10 is reaching it's limits here....

Peter,

Zwave is definitely on the list. Ive got the whole SDK and dongle from ControlThink so will be basing my implementation using those tools.

Dave.

Can I add my vote to the Z-Wave support...

In the UK we are VERY limited by (reliable) products
available.. Zwave support would unleash powerhomes full potential and no doubt increase UK sales.

It's quite frustrating that no other company but Zwave
have decided to make such minor alterations on their
products to suit the voltage difference.

Dave: Can I start to purchase modules or is the
implementation likely to be a while longer?

Kind Regards
Chris

Zwave seems to be really taking off, based on the many things shown at CES.

I will be going with the ZCS201 USB unit..

My shopping list is complete, I can't wait to get started.
The radiator valves are a fantastic idea! In the morning, I
can set them not to operate in the lounge or dining room
(because just use the kitchen when I wake up), and yet in
the evening I can set them to to come on for the whole
house.

Any news Dave?

Z-Wave Update.

Well, Ive been researching and playing around with the ControlThink SDK that I bought into (I actually bought the kit twice...once about 3 years ago when they first came out and again more recently when they updated the stick). It appears that Leviton is no longer supporting this SDK and there have been no new updates for some time. The worst thing is that it appears that the SDK has a serious memory leak. Its unfortunate since this is the way I was planning to go.

So a bit more research and Ive come across openzwave.com. Ive downloaded the source and compiled the libraries. The main problem is that it was not compatible with either of the ThinkSticks that I have so I had to order a completely different zwave controller. A little research and this is what I got: Aeon Labs Z-Wave Z-Stick Series 2 USB Dongle. While the openzwave project is still in its infancy and is a work in progress, I'll see what I can come up with shortly.

We're still probably at least 3 months away from a stable beta but Im working it and will post back my results.

Dave.

Sounds quite involved, but your efforts are more than
appreciated Dave.

I will hold off from purchasing the dongle just yet, but I
sure will be one of the first to test if for you when its
in the further stages of development.

For UK users you could look at PLCBus as well. I've been using it and it is reliable and quick. There is also a translation module between X10 and PLCBus so you can have both types of device on your system. Hoping we might get native PLCBus implementation on PowerHome

Peter,

Don't buy the interface quite yet . Im running into some issues getting the .NET assemblies interfacing with PowerBuilder properly.

The newest version of PowerBuilder (version 12) has .net support so Im looking at migrating the code to see if that helps.

Dave.

that is sad to hear, but you know what they say:
"good work needs time" so I just stay with running 2.1b at the moment... or should I install a newer version?

Have you considered an interim solution with the Levitron VRC0P? Simple serial commands. As this is a secondary controller though, powerhome would not be able to associate devices.

I'm still waiting for Elk to update their VRC0P support for the new version that supports the Z-Wave locks though.

One option may be using the Micasa Verde as the Zwave controller, then the need is to talk the MCV rather than each Zwave module. This seems to be the root of that Mcontrol is going with version 3

Without coming across as ungrateful for you efforts..
The electrician will be along next week to start my whole
house rewire, and I’m just wondering exactly how the Z-
Wave support is coming along?

We are very limited on options in the UK, and Z-wave is a
very exciting product for us. This thread has been
bouncing around for nearly a year now, and I’m just
looking for a realistic timescale for implementation. I
really like the powerhome etiquette and love the endless
possibilities offered… but if I have all of these devices
installed at home and can’t use them for 3 months, I’m
afraid I will have to look for another software package.
