My 2441TH Stat seems to have quit responding, and can't get 'er goin' so tried Factory Reset (didn't work) but in the process thought I would take advantage of the new I2CS support to use software set it back up after the reset, instead of the many and bazar manual operations otherwise required.

BUT to my dismay, there seems to be no Device control Options in the PowerHome Device window.

The Old SmartHome HouseLinc software offers extensive control features, but not PH.

Dave, is anything planned?

Ken,

The plan is to eventually have support for extended options for all Insteon devices (where specs/protocol have been published). I have the docs for the newer themostat devices but it definitely won't make it into the next release (2.1.5b) due to required database changes which Im trying to avoid in this release so I can get it out ASAP.

Perhaps 2.1.5c.

Dave.

Dave - That's great news. This thermostat is a real pin in the hind-end to set up. Takes way too many button pushes!

I look forward to it, and others, being integrated into PH.

Good work. Sure do appreciate your efforts.

Smarthome has the Insteon 2441TH Thermostats on sale. A 4 Pack is only $300.

Smarthome 4 Stats $300

I have a 4 zone hot water boiler. The current stats are 2 wire simple contact closure completing the 24V loop from transformer in the basement to the zone control valve(s). The transformer also powers the damper and logic.

2 Questions

1 - Can I use these thermostats?
I already "prewired" with 5 wires plus the original pair.

I'm thinking of I should be able to do this with 3 wires. I just have to connect the Power 24v to power the stat and connect Common 24 & Heat 1 (W1). I'm assuming the stat is just contact closure between W1 & 24 Common.

2 - With PH 2.1.5a(b) What level of feedback and control can I expect?

I have been holding off on thermostats for a years. I don't like the "cloud" based stats because they are overpriced and depend on someone else's servers to read and control them.

Thanks for your input!

Lenny,

I cant comment on the wiring or how the thermostat will be used but can tell you that PowerHome should give you full control and monitoring over the Insteon thermostat functions: Current temperature, Cool setpoint, Heat setpoint, mode, humidity (if the stat supports it), and current run status.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. I have been on hold
with Smarthome for 40 minutes now. I just want them to
confirm the stat works like a normal stat does.

So I got my new 2441TH thermostats today. I opened one up and connected a spare zone control valve and transformer to it on the bench and it works fine with 3 wires. The BTA12-600TW TRIACs in it are rated for 12A and a zone valve only draws 1mA so it should be just fine.

I then added it to PH and searched the help file and forum for details on how to read & set the values.
I tried some of the commands and a couple worked returning valid data, but most of what I found didn't work or returned unrecognizable data. Is there any documentation out here that I'm missing? Can someone point me in the right direction?
It would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Lenny

Lenny-

If you are running ph 1.2.5 (either a or b) go to the
Help documentation and read the "Setting up Insteon
Thermostats" in the FAQ area.

That should tell you everything you need to know and
includes examples.

Speaking of "Thermostats" I notice that the PH Analog
stat support seems to be returning Integer values
for the Temps.

I thought the stats presented Temps in 1/2 degree steps.

Is there a setting somewhere Dave, that I need to
change?

Thanks Ken, Just what I was looking for. 2.1.5 made it pretty easy now.

2.1.5.b kept crashing on me while linking and I ended up rolling back to 2.1.5a to be able to delete the "Link not Founds" that were created by the Insteon Hub I was playing with yesterday. Within a few minutes I was reading values :)

I'm looking forward to that fix Dave has in 2.1.5c for the link crash.

Thanks Again

Great Lenny-

Glad to help. I struggled for a long time to get my
multiple stats working, and advised Dave that if he
would jump in and help I would reward his efforts by
writing everything up for a FAQ Help document.

Glad to hear that the guide was actually helpful.

Not sure, never really played with it. The insteon protocol for the thermostat does return the temp values x 2 so it would be possible for .5 degree steps (not sure if in actuality the tstat ever returns odd values...would have to play with it) but since the actual stat can only display whole numbers, thats what I went with.

When I get a chance, I'll run some tests. However, if I add support for it, some code on the users end will likely have to change. The analogio table stores raw values as a whole number so instead of storing (and returning) 75 the number instead would be 150 with the user having to do the division (unless they use the "calculated value").

Dave.
