Dave, First let me start off with a little praise. The integration PH provides
with the Elk is wonderful. I have finally achieved the level of integration
between my Elk and my home automation server that I have been
searching for.

Unfortunately, I have run into an obscure situation that I have yet to be
able to find a solution for. I have my PH controller connecting to my
M1XEP (ethernet port) . Everything runs great at first, but eventually the
connection breaks. Unfortunately, PH does not identify this situation. The
effect of this is that the PH controller appears to be operating, but no
events are received and sent commands fall into a black hole.

This occurs very infrequently. I would estimate every 1-2 weeks. I can
find no error message, or external event that is causing this link to break.
I have definitely been able to rule out power outages and system restarts.
Dave, is it possible that an uncaught/unidentified socket connection
timeout could be causing this?

Has anyone else encountered this behavior? It appears that reinitializing
PH resolves the problem (probably because it restarts the controller which reconnects to the Elk) but this is definitely a stopgap measure.

I thought about setting up a timer to automatically re-initialize PH. I have
searched the forums and help to no avail. Is there a script command that I
can use to re-initialize PH?

Jayson,

I have and know personally that Dave is going to integrate a "keep alive (are you there?)" thread that will automatically re-initialize the plug-in. One thing you should check is to make sure that a gateway IP address is set on the ELK Ethernet adapter. Dave already has created a   trigger that detects that RP has taken over the port and that the ethernet device has re-established. I think Dave will be able to get this in .13 release.

I know for a fact that this small update will ensure 99.9% reliability of ELK to PH for every rule that I'm using which ELK will never do (i.e. Variables, Timers, Plugins)

Jayson,

Appreciate the comments and glad you like the integration thus far. I'll be adding even more in the .13 version. Also, as Sharby has mentioned, I'll be adding some code to the Elk controller to try and detect this situation and automatically correct for it.

HTH,

Dave.

Dave, Sharby,

Great to hear. The integration works great with this one intermittent
problem.

Any idea on a timeframe for .13? days/weeks/months?

Jaysonc,

Dave releases updates probably every 1-2 months. Reason being, he has over a dozen bug/patch/feature updates that result in a noticable version update. He works day&night on issues that we may or may not use (Insteon, UPB, Stargate, etc). Its almost that time for .13, but I will let Dave provide feedback on the release date. Sit tight, it's well worth the wait.

.13 is still a little ways off. Alot of changes/enhancements are planned including xPL controllers, UPB, and Stargate. Also, enhancements to the Control Center with global variables and Device points. Also, some enhancements with the Elk. All of these changes involve new triggers, changes to the remote clients (CC and DS), etc.

All in all, it should be a highly anticipated release. To get all of this in, we're probably still looking at a couple of months.

HTH,

Dave.
