I've recently setup a brand new install of PH in a brand new house with my Insteon switches. I've gone through and set the local levels and ramp rates in Insteon Explorer, and the desired levels have pushed into the local level columns, but none of the switches are responding with those settings.   I've restarted PH several times, and have air gapped the switches, but the switches still don't want to respond with the selected levels. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Kempo,

Couple of things to try. Turn on and let PowerHome scan the local level and ramprate to verify that the levels and ramps were written and actually "stuck". Also, try flipping your breakers for 5 seconds to power cycle the switch. Ive found that sometimes the air gap doesnt actually work to force the change to take effect.

Let me know how that goes.

Dave.

Dave- I looked and I already had level scan and write level checkboxes enabled in Insteon explorer. I turned them off and back on, reinitializing between each change in hopes to make something click, but the switches still are not using the levels and ramp rates. I also did try flipping the breakers as well and nothing changed either. :(

Just checking to see if anyone has any other ideas about this problem that I might be able to try to make my switches update their ramp and local levels. All my switches still are coming on at full rates despite that I have them setup differently inside PH. Thanks.

....newer firmware switches???

I know that is NOT what you would like to hear, but I feel that Insteon has made a lot of running changes...(at least that is my perception)...most of the changes for the good, others not so much....

Also, seems like highly used switches only last so long....then they get flakey....my experience... certain

I have a mix of brand new switches and many that are several years old. I can't get any of them to respond with the ramp/level settings. I pulled about 30 switches out of my old house that worked fine there, but when installed in my new house none of them respond to the settings, and neither do the brand new ones I've purchased in the last few months. The only difference between now and then is that I am now using the USB stick controller verses my old PLM that failed just before we moved.

Ran a few quick tests this morning...with my system....

From the Insteon window, using the DEVICES tab, I scrolled to a device, changed the "Desired Local Ramp rate", and hit "Save/Refresh". THAT should have caused PH to start some Insteon traffic to update ramp rates. There was NO TRAFFIC, hence no ramp rate change occurred.

Just to be sure my system was behaving OK/normally, I then went to the "Links" tab, and selected the same device from the "Insteon Device ID" drop down, and changed the "D Ramp" of one of the controllers (of the current device). I hit "save", and the Insteon traffic started and the ramp rate of that link was properly updated.

...............

Re-reading your posts above, you say "...and the desired levels have pushed into the local level columns...". With this one quick experiment, I never saw this.

Steve,

Make sure that you've got "Level/Ramp/X10 Scan" and
"Write Level/Ramp/X10" options checked at the top of
Insteon Explorer. Im betting this is why you didnt see
any traffic.

Kempo,

I have searched through all the Insteon notes that I
have and have found a couple of commands in the
Switchlinc 2-wire dimmer that documents extended
commands to set the On level and ramprate. I have
tested it on one of my normal switchlincs (not 2-wire)
and it worked so give it a try. The command I used
was:

ph_insteonwithretext1("AVRM",h2d("2e"),0,"00 06 7e")

This command sets the on level. "AVRM" is the ID of my
device. Everything else remains the same except for
the last "7e" which is a hex value between 00 and FF
for the on level you want.

The command for the ramprate is:

ph_insteonwithretext1("AVRM",h2d("2e"),0,"00 05 1f")

The difference here is that the "06" in the first
command changed to an "05" and the last hex number
("1f" in my example) must be in the range of 00 to 1F
for 32 possible ramp levels.

Anyways, both of these worked for me (no gap pull or
power reset necessary) so I'll add this to the to-do
list as an option for levels and ramprates. Not sure
which minimum level of switch firmware is required for
these commands so will need to do some additional
testing to try and find out.

Hope this helps,

Dave.

Yep, Dave was right. I did not have this box checked.
