Help! This one's frustrating me. My hall light works properly without PH on. With PH on, after about 15 seconds, the light shuts off then back on. After that, the light seemingly randomly and continuously shuts off then back on. Here's what I have tried so far:

1. This has been happening for about 10 days, but I figured when this new beta came out I would start from scratch and that would probably fix it. So I went all-out - deleted all my links, reinstalled XP, installed ph 1.03.4.8, started with a brand new database, cleared the PLC, redownloaded the core app, added a few lights, then added the problem light. As soon as the light was added to PH, the problem started again. The problem occurs whether I turn on the light locally or through PH.

2. My original thought was that it was a timed event, macro, or trigger, but the new database is completely empty except for the 4 insteon devices.

3. I have factory reset the switch several times.

Any ideas or troubleshooting suggestions? I even called SH tech support, but of course they wanted me to try their software first, then get back to them. Hopefully I'll get help here instead...

Here is part of the SDM log, not sure if it is the part somebody needs to interpret it, but there is definitely a lot of activity after the problem light is turned on.

Thanks,
Cris

I had something like this happen when I first started testing Insteon.

Not sure if you have a dimmer switch or LampLinc, but this may apply...

Quote:
This is a normal issue that happens when you have a lamp module that has local control turned on, which is the default setting for the insteon LampLinc. To remedy this issue simply set the LampLinc to an X address by putting hte device in linking mode (hold hte set button for 10 seconds) and send the x10 address off command 3 times (for example F5 off F5 off F5 off.) This will disable Local control. Then unlink the x10 address from the LampLinc module by holding the set button for 10 seconds, then hold it again for another 10 seconds and then send the X10 off command 3 more times.

Tony,

Thanks for the suggestion, but it is a dimmer switch (600W) that has the problem. I'm desperate, I'll try the remedy anyway just to see what happens.

Cris,

Looking at the SDM log you posted, I see nothing out of the ordinary. The above is memory peeks for device 00.27.0A. Based upon your description of the problem, it sounds as if you have a defective device. It's fine as long as no traffic is going to it but as soon as you start peeking it's memory, it starts to flake out. This will happen anytime that communication is sent to the device (which is why it works when PowerHome isnt running).

If you were to open the Insteon Explorer and set the Poll Interval to 0 and then tab off of the Poll Interval control, it should stop (it may take a few seconds as PowerHome finishes the task it's in the middle of).

My recommendation is to RMA it to SmartHome for a replacement.

Dave.

Strange, device 00.27.0A is not the device with the problem. The problem device has an address of 00.16.DB. I set the poll interval to 0 and the problem stopped, as you said it would.

(Sigh)... This will be the third week in a row I have to RMA switches back to SH. I'd better start saving for when the warranty is up.

The new Insteon Explorer is awesome! Everything is right there and easy to get to - Thank you!
