Hi - I've been having some PLM issues, but whenever I swap PLMs, I have to manually delete and recreate all the links to/from the PLM (between PLM and things like KPL, Controllinc, Motion Sensor, etc). Admittedly for my small setup it's just 5 minutes of drag and edit, but since it's so mechanical. I wonder if there's an easier way (or an easier way coming in a new version of PH?) Seems like it would be a useful feature.   Something like - simply update the address of the PLM in the link database and do a Save of everything? (rather than having to delete and recreate all the same links)

Just a thought - or maybe there's an easy way I'm missing?

This must be possible, as I did something similar going from a PLC to a PLM (no recreating anything).

The easy way to upgrade your PLC/PLM...

1. Shutdown PowerHome. Disconnect old PLC/PLM. Connect new PLC/PLM.

2. Start PowerHome. Open Help/About and go to "Controllers" tab. Note the address of the new controller.

3. Open Insteon Explorer. Uncheck "Enable Pending". Navigate to "Devices" tab. Find the ID for your new controller. PowerHome would have autogenerated a new one for you. Verify you've got the right one by comparing the address.

4. Delete this newly created line (next version of PowerHome, this will not be necessary). Save/Refresh to save your changes. Scroll down until you find the ID of your previous PLC/PLM. In the "Replace Address" field, type the address of your new PLC/PLM. Save/Refresh to save your changes.

5. Verify that your controller line looks proper with the correct ID and now the correct address. Make sure that the Insteon Type reflects your actual controller.

6. Prep the new PLC/PLM by performing the steps on the Setup Tab. If the new controller is a PLC, do a "Download", "Clear", "Add Min". If a PLM, do a "Clear", "Add Full".

7. Check "Enable Pending". At this time, PowerHome should start updating all your external devices with your new controllers address.

Dave.

I know there's probably a fix for this, but, at least on my installation, step 7 didn't work. No updating occurred, and all the links were bad   (ID and Descriptions show "ID NOT FOUND"). I had to rebuild all the links again (no big deal).

2 things
a) Could this be because i have most of the checkboxes across the top unchecked (no regular polling, etc).

b) Note to readers. After rebuilding the links, it pays to clear and reload the controller -again-. This extra step seems to be needed to make the motion sensor work.

Grr. I thought I lost my PLM, so, I ordered another one. Help|About says that no controller is connected when I have the new one or old one connected. Digging in...

Under Powerhome Explorer; Setup | Controllers, is either PLM listed and checked Active?   A Reinit may be needed to have Controller change take effect.

The one that's shown is Active.

I may have lost the serial port. Once I can test via loopback I'll know more.

Great. I can't get to the port with Hyperterm. It says that another app is using it. Next on the list is to see if it got disabled in BIOS and pick up an USB/serial adapter for alternate testing.

When you get done you may have two good PLMs.

The USB-Serial adapter is functioning and the new PLM is working. :D

I'll check out the old one later. This new one is dual-band, so, I think I have some additional options now.
