Installing Virtual serial port ( VSP ) plug in window 7
enterprise solved

My Xp backup had working virtual serial port to connect insteon HUB (Hub 2242-222) but my computer got crashed so I decided to install win 7.

I tried everything which I was familiar with connecting virtual serial port information in various post including mine –

Plugin was getting installed but the status in Help-About-Plugin was disable. (sample screen below- no ports were created in the device manager)

PowerHome Virtual Serial Port Plugin
COM: 7
Remote Host: 10.0.0.71
Remote Port: 9761
PowerHome Plugin ID: HUB
Plugin Version: 1.0
SDK Version: 1.2
Current Status: Disable

Here is what worked. (For all the options I had uninstalled the previous working one)

1st option:

With the help of 2nd post by Jaaay
http://www.power-home.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3349&KW= vsp
Downloaded created virtual serial port and tcp client. (free for personal use but 32 bit)
As mentioned in the post how to – I was able to connect to HUB

2nd option – interesting –(easy)

http://www.hw-group.com/products/hw_vsp/index_en.html
download Singleport 3.1.2 (free for all version for personal use)
Install downloaded software
don’t even config or run the installed software now run the powerhome with the plugin config like before. And it WORKED.
Reason is that they also use the same driver for virtual serial port ELTIMA Software.
So I checked if they were using different driver version and NO it was same.

3rd option – powerhome it self

From second option I knew that ELTIMA driver with HW group was working so it must be power home did not install the entire driver or missing something. (Even though I had manually registered all the dll/ocx)
There is install program in (powerhome driver directory)
\powerhome\Drivers\VSP 6.2\vspdxp_install (run as administrator)
Got all the warning from window installing unknown few times but I continued.
(Not sure if needed this but I went to command line program to the vsp 6.2 directory and did it
regsvr32 vsport.dll)

Run the powerhome everything is working again.

hope above helps someone in same situation
